10 Do's & Don'ts of Effective Logo Design

A logo is one of the single most important branding decisions you will make for your business. A logo leaves a lasting impression and will either thrive or whither away.

Make sure your business has a logo that represents its values and reflects your mission. It's important to put a lot of thought into your logo and how you want to represent your business.

Effective logo:

  • Simple / Versatile: can be used on many platforms and still remain clear

  • Memorable: can evoke familiarity with your brand

  • Timeless / Relevant: doesn't use trendy imagery or fonts that will date it

  • Appropriate: fits with your brand and isn't confusing or misleading

  • Consider having a vertical, horizontal variation, and icon version if applicable

Ineffective Logo:

  • Do not use more than two fonts, it can become chaotic

  • Do not use photos as artwork. Simple vector design is best. Keep it simple

  • Do not change your logo often, this can confuse your audience

  • Do not stretch or condense your logo

  • Don't use drop shadows behind the logo
